Project Description

Polyacrylonitrile is the primary raw material for carbon fiber precursor production. The solvent dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) used in its manufacturing process is present in high concentrations in the resulting wastewater. DMSO is an organic compound that is difficult to biodegrade. Its presence not only increases the COD value of the wastewater but also makes wastewater treatment more challenging. By using solvent-resistant membranes to concentrate and recover DMSO from the wastewater, resource recovery is achieved, turning waste into valuable material.
